The mission of the Chef Ann Foundation is to provide tools that help schools serve children healthy and delicious scratch-cooked meals made with fresh, whole food. Through our grant programs, we are able to award equipment funding to schools that are committed to making real, positive changes to their food programs.
Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools
Let's Move Salad Bars to Schools (LMSB2S) awards salad bar packages to help school districts expand their commitment to serving fresh fruits and vegetables. Schools use the grants (approx. $2,800 value) to implement salad bars as part of their daily meal programs. As a managing partner of LMSB2S, CAF helps school districts through the application, fundraising, and fulfillment processes. Who Can Apply
Any district or independent school participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is eligible to apply.
To qualify for a Let's Move Salad Bars to Schools grant, you must offer the salad bar as part of the reimbursable meal served in your district. The 6-foot, five-well salad bar package is appropriate for locations that serve at least 100 reimbursable meals daily.
Mission Nutrition: Fruit and Veggie Grants for Schools
The Chef Ann Foundation has teamed up with Skoop, a superfoods company committed to bringing the health benefits of superfoods to every American. Together we have launched Mission Nutrition: Fruit and Veggie Grants for Schools. These $2,500 grants assist you in exposing the students you serve to a diversity of fresh fruits and vegetables, expanding their palates, and encouraging increased consumption of fresh produce through fruit and vegetable samplings and lunchroom education experiences. Offering these events to all kids whether they bring or buy lunch requires additional funds. Mission Nutrition grants can help you fill that gap.
Who Can Apply
Any district or independent school with an F/R rate of 50% or higher and that participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is eligible to apply.
Grant funds must be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables; they may not be used for staff hours, transportation, collateral materials, or other programming costs.
Grant funds are intended for the additional food purchases required to offer your food education event to all students in the cafeteria at lunch, regardless whether they bought or brought their lunch.
The fruit and veggie samplings must be accompanied by a lunchroom education component such as a Rainbow Day at your salad bar, seasonal fruit and veggies tastings, vegetable recipe contests, chef-at-school events, farm-to-school events, or events of your own design. Priority will be given to schools that have made initial steps toward creating a healthier school lunch program with a focus on greater access to fruits and vegetables.
We strongly encourage schools to use their Mission Nutrition funds to purchase locally produced fruits and vegetables when possible.
Healthy Breakfast for Kids
Healthy Breakfast for Kids (HB4K) awards $2,500 equipment grants to high-needs schools for the purpose of establishing universal, after-the-bell breakfast programs. Grant awardees can use the $2,500 grant to order food service smallwares and equipment. We also provide planning and implementation resources for Breakfast at The Lunch Box.
Who Can Apply
For the 2014-15 school year, HB4K grants are restricted to the state of Michigan. Any Michigan public or independent school with an F/R rate of 40% or higher that also participates in the National School Breakfast Program (NSBP) is eligible to apply.
To qualify for a Healthy Breakfast for Kids grant, schools must agree to use the award to purchase equipment for universal, after-the-bell breakfast programs.
